The Chevin Chase is a wonderful local event that takes place every Boxing Day. This year we have an alternative event for those who are ‘less fit’, but still keen to walk off the Christmas fare, have some neighbourly fun, and help your local community at the same time.
To fund raise for the Judicial Review on the deletion of Aireborough Green Belt sites, photographer Darren Sanderson has put together a 5 mile walk around the 3 Guiseley plots. The idea is for participants to raise as much sponsorship money from friends as family as they can on completion of the walk.
WALK DETAILS
LEADER ……………….
Darren Sanderson (darren sanderson photography), with support from landscape historian, Jennifer Kirkby (ANDF).
THE WALK …………..
takes in 3 of the sites, Wills Gill, The Ings and Hollins Hill. Along the way there will be panoramic views of our amazing Aireborough landscape that Darren has been photographing for 5 years – until he started an ANDF landscape project, he did not realize what treasures are on our doorstop. The aim is to show you the landscape character of the area and of the 3 Green Belt sites in particular. Also, the reasons why we are challenging the decision.
We will start and end at the Guiseley, Cross, Town Gate, 10am. The route is approximately 5 miles and will take between 2.5 – 3 hours. No one will be left behind as there will be a ‘back of the pack’ marshal to ensure everyone knows where to go and help with any issues. Map here.
THE FUN ………….
You will learn a little about Aireborough – its history and geography whilst you are fund raising for this important cause in your own area. You are also keeping fit and walking off some of the Christmas excess (before the inevitable New Year excess kicks in). Bring a camera for those photos you are bound to find – we might even have a follow up exhibition if there are enough to show.
YOUR SAFETY ……..
Wear sensible shoes or walking boots as the ground is bound to be muddy and uneven. Please dress for the weather in warm, robust clothing. Bring something to drink and a light snack or two.
Most of the route is on public footpaths (paved and grass) but there are also some road crossings. Please take care whilst crossing – especially near the White Cross (there is a pedestrian crossing).
Any persons under the age of 16, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
The walk must be undertaken at your own risk . A registration form will need to be signed to take part.
Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
THE CAUSE ……….
We are crowdfunding for a Judicial Review of the Leeds City Council decision to delete 4 Green Belt sites in Aireborough – Ings Lane, Wills Gill, Hollins Hill, Guiseley and Victoria Avenue Yeadon. We believe this decision to be flawed. We have a specialist legal team to make the case, but need the funds to do so. So, far we have raised over £25,000 to but need to a total of £50,000 to make and bring the case. So get those sponsors flowing and let’s make this a great Aireborough event.
I’M IN ………………………
You can download a sponsor form here. If you have any questions please contact Darren Sanderson – darrensandersonphotography@gmail.com or Liz Kirkpatrick aireboroughnp@gmail.com. Let’s make this an event to remember.
